I took this picture as I sat having a cup of coffee with a friend early this morning. The light blue sedan pulled into the spot, a man got out, and removed his bag from his trunk. He started to close the trunk, turned, took one step, and then paused, turned back around, and retrieved one more thing from his trunk.
What he didn’t – and doesn’t – know is that a car was coming from the right. It missed him by a foot or two. It didn’t even slow down. (And it was going way too fast for a parking lot.) Since it was coming from the right and he turned to the left, he never saw it. But it was almost a disaster. The scene went from This is horrible! to This was a non-event. in the blink of an eye.
I told my friend what I had just seen and we both sat in awe for few moments, Pondering how many times God protects us without us ever being aware that His hand of protection was even present.
I have just finished reading Psalm 121 with fresh eyes. You might want to take a moment and do the same.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

When have you sensed, seen, or known God’s “watching over?”
